What is Specialist Mentor Support?

“Mentoring is to support and encourage people to manage their own learning in order that they may maximise their potential, develop their skills, improve their performance and become the person they want to be.” – Eric Parsloe, The Oxford School of Coaching & Mentoring.

The DSA recommends weekly meetings of an hour – this helps realistic goal setting and management of anxiety and stress levels.

Diverse Learners provides specialist mentor support that enables students to organise and plan their studying in a way best suited to them.

Specialist Mentor support helps the student to:

  • Identify areas of study that might need improving – for instance, time management, goal-setting, meeting deadlines
  • Develop strategies and skills to improve study
  • Review progress regularly and implement change if needed
  • Increase self-confidence and self-esteem

In each session the student and mentor will review progress, agree on what goals need to be set for the following week and how to achieve them.
