Gibb’s Reflective Cycle mindmap created – the benefits of Assisitive Technology training sessions
This mind map shows one student’s interpretation of Gibb’s Reflective Cycle and was designed by the student as a template so it can be used on all placements to aid them complete their CAP (nursing) document / reflective log. It was produced during a 1 hour support session with one of the Assistive Technology Trainers at Diverse Learners, Dave.
During the session Dave demonstrated the software and supported the student to capture their ideas and demonstrate their understanding as a visual representation that was meaningful to them.
At Diverse Learners we know that there are many demands on your time especially if you are a student on placement. That is why we try to make sure you go away with something at the end of the session. It might be a mind map, how to use an app, create a table or dictate more accurately or trouble-shooting a problem, anything that helps and moves you further towards completing a piece of work, assignment, or task.
Many students have dedicated sessions for Assistive Technology training as part of their Disabled Students Allowances (DSA) package and it is often given as 3 or 4 half day sessions. It covers software such as:
- Mind mapping – as seen in the example
- Speech-to-Text software – you speak and it types
- Text-to Speech software – it reads to you
- Audio-notetaker and voice files from dictaphones
Diverse Learners provides training on software for example:
Inspiration,
Mindview,
Read Write Gold /Texthelp,
ClaroRead
Dragon Speaking Naturally
as well as, using technology, iphones and apps to support you to become a more effective and efficient learner.
In essence, do MORE, in less time with less effort and less stress.
Training at Diverse Learners is delivered in one hour slots so you are more likely to remember what has been taught.
You are in control of the session and you can go over things as many times as you want until it goes in.
The team at Diverse Learners also use specialist software during study skills sessions so you will get a chance to overlearn and practice the skills you’ve learnt during Assistive Technology training.
I hope that inspires more students to take up their specialist training. It REALLY has made a MASSIVE difference for Jim, Dave and me. Jim and I use it all the time and plan all projects on mind maps. I used Dragon – speech to text software – to write this.
I have saved the mind map as a Gif – and that is why the background is black.
If you need it in another format such as Jpeg, Inspiration 8, Inspiration 9 or Inspiration for Ipad just let us know by leaving a comment or email admin@Diverse-Learners.co.uk
